Issue #6: Annexation is discretionary and must serve Buffalo Grove residents

The subject site is currently unincorporated, and annexation is not automatic, guaranteed, or required by the Village.

Redeveloping parcels within the current Village boundaries (i.e. The Clove) makes good sense for residents and is a responsible way to increase tax revenues and improve the quality of life; annexing new territory for developers does little to improve the village.

Annexing parcels with no benefit to Buffalo Grove residents runs counter to all of the Villages stated goals.

The costs of education, fire, police, roads, water, sanitation, and other village service must be borne by existing residents until revenues from the development offset the additional expenses.

The Village has a responsibility to evaluate whether annexing and developing this parcel as proposed  aligns with the values, needs, and long-term planning goals of current and future Buffalo Grove residents.

If the proposed development is inconsistent with surrounding land uses, exceeds District 102’s educational capacity, poses environmental risks, or disrupts established transit patterns, the Village is under no obligation to engage in an annexation.
