Issue #8: The Kenley development will contribute to overcrowding in D102

According to District 102 (D102), the new development is anticipated to add 115 to 130 new students to the local D102 school District.

Although the proposed development is not within the Village of Buffalo Grove, it would be in School District 102. The Village must consider the ramifications on D102 residents, students, and taxpayers.

It’s unlikely D102 can accommodate this influx of students without compromising educational quality and increasing class sizes, given that the schools are already overcrowded and struggling to find room for every student.

A 2023 referendum already asked taxpayers to contribute $49 Million to D102. Will taxpayers be responsible for again expanding the capacity of D102?

There is little physical room left for D102 schools (Pritchett, Meridian, Tripp, and Aptakisic Middle) to expand to.

Stevenson High School similarly lacks room for expansion.

Public schools that are filled are a good thing. It reinforces the fact that we support and provide a high-quality education to everyone. However, overcrowded schools threaten to degrade that reality, which will cause a negative spiral in terms of educational quality and the value of the community.
